Toronto and Niagara Falls: The End

So 72 days after leaving Sydney we headed to Toronto for the weekend for our last stop on this epic trip. Leaving Havana it was around 30 degrees. Arriving in Toronto its was -1. -1!! We hadn’t experienced cold like this in almost 18 months. James could hardly feel his toes. Visiting Toronto had a number of purposes. Number 1 for Catherine was shopping in the Eton Centre and as it was Easter weekend time was limited! As soon as we’d arrived in the hotel Catherine was gone to raid Sephora. James on the other hand was in need of a friendly face and met up with one of the lads from home, Gary aka Geddys. Seeing a friend from home after 16 months was great, even if it was in ice cold Canada!

The next day we headed on a bus tour to Niagara Falls. On the way we stopped in a ice wine vineyard, a cute little town – Niagara on the Lake – and a Niagara river lookout. Then it was on to the main event, Niagara Falls. The sheer size and power of this water is incredible. Luckily enough we got a nice clear day that by Canadian standards was warm, until we headed behind the falls where it was freezing! Seeing the falls up close was great and another one to tick off the list. That evening we met with Gary again and a friend, Joe, from Sligo. Good craic was had in the pub while having a few pints of Guinness.

The next day was home time. We quickly ran around the Eton Centre to get a few final bits then it was off to the airport. And so our journey came to its conclusion. An incredible, amazing trip over. From Easter Island to Machu Picchu, the Salt Flats to Havana, great food to an engagement and everything in between, this trip has been a once in a lifetime experience and we’ll never forget everything we did, everything we saw and all the people we met along the way.

So from Chile to chilly Dublin on Easter Monday 2016, when Ireland celebrates the Easter Rising centenary, we return to Ireland. Home.
